“Broadening economic fundamentals for a renaissance in economics: implications for policies and well-being”

Guest editors: Leonardo Becchetti, Marco Cucculelli, Giovanni Ferri.

The special issue welcomes contributions broadening views on five critical pillars/hypotheses of the dominant economic paradigm and their capacity to address the main socioeconomic challenges (climate change, poverty and inequality, poverty of sense of life). More specifically we refer (mainly but not exclusively) to moving beyond:

i) Homo economicus: Contributions of behavioral economics beyond the view of a human being with only rational decision making and self-regarding preferences toward broader anthropological views considering, among others, the role of other-regarding preferences, relational goods, emotions, identity and taste for impact and generativity;
ii) Shareholder only firms: Contributions on corporations beyond the view of exclusive profit maximization with a broader view on corporate goals and forms of ownership considering social and environmental impacts and the interest of different stakeholders;
iii) GDP only: Contributions on wellbeing indicators beyond GDP broadening views toward multidimensional wellbeing indicators;
iv) The state-individual dichotomy with subsidiarity: Contributions on the role and actors of political economy broadening views toward grassroots action in civil society;
v) Knowledge silos and separation between research and social engagement: Contributions on the role of academicians broadening views toward multidisciplinarity and civic engagement.

The submission system for the Special Issue will open on Sept 1st, 2024. Deadline for submissions of manuscripts: 31 Jan 2025.
